Book introduction
We think using concepts and express them with words. Additionally, when we perceive and assign meaning to things around us, we rely on concepts and categories that we already know. In other words, when we encounter the world we live in and try to think about and give meaning to things in the world, we are inevitably confined by established frameworks of interpretation. However, if we remain content with that state, we cannot perceive the world as it is.
This book approaches the philosophy of Deleuze as being driven by the very issue just described. The phrase “the battle with clichés” from his work The Logic of Sensation, where he discusses the painter Francis Bacon, captures the struggle of our thought practice to break free from the confines of established interpretive frameworks.
