Proposing the future of humanities
and social sciences
The expectations society holds for the humanities and social sciences have become higher than ever before.
In order to meet these expectations, the Institute for the Future of Human Society was formed from a merger of the Kokoro Research Center and the Unit of Kyoto Initiatives for the Humanities and Social Sciences in April 2022.
Our guiding principles are to create collective wisdom through interdisciplinary collaboration, to promote the development of new research through partnerships beyond academia, and to amplify our capabilities for sharing knowledge from the perspective of the humanities and social sciences. We aim to confront the challenges our future societies will face using insights from our respective fields, and to foster an environment in which diverse dialogues and research endeavors are born.
At the IFoHS, researchers in various fields related to the humanities and social sciences and university research administrators (URA) collaborate together, and carry out various activities that contribute to the development of the humanities and social sciences.
