Special Lecture on Technology and Religion Delivered by Professor Seiji Kumagai at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine

Professor Seiji Kumagai (Institute for the Future of Human Society, Kyoto University) delivered a special lecture at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine on June 3, 2025, titled “Can ‘Kokoro-Tech’ and Traditional Wisdom-Tech Help Us Overcome the Suffering of Life, Aging, Illness, and Death?”.
In his lecture, Professor Kumagai discussed the structure of the mind and suffering, as well as methods for controlling worldly desires based on Buddhist ideas. He also introduced current developments in technologies for a mentally healthy society as part of Japan’s Cabinet Office Moonshot Goal 9 (for which he serves as Program Director) and in “traditional wisdom technologies” such as the AI Buddhist dialogue system, BuddhaBot.
