2025.05.27

On March 8, 2025, the IFOHS hosted the event Towards the Creation of New Integrated Knowledge through the Humanities and Social Sciences” at Inamori Center. The event was aimed at showcasing the outcomes of various collaborative research projects at Kyoto University.

The Institute for the Future of Human Society has long supported interdisciplinary research projects recruited within Kyoto University, focusing on four key themes: (1) disseminating non-Western philosophies and values to the wider society, (2) studying well-being in relation to human life and livelihoods, (3) exploring the fusion of Humanities and Natural Sciences, societal cooperation, and public outreach of arts and culture, and (4) measuring, analyzing, and implementing social infrastructures, institutions, and policies.

In the first part of the event, four researchers presented their respective projects, sharing unique and original research that drew considerable interest from the audience:

1. Pr. Satoshi Mizohata: “Resilience in Comfortable Authoritarian Powers — A New Comparative Perspective on China and Russia”

2. Dr. Mayuko Harada: “Examining Factors that Help Home-Based Informal Caregivers Balance Work, House Chores, and Caregiving Responsibilities”

3. Dr. Sanae Takano: “Toward AI Recognition of Cord Marks of Jomon Pottery — The Potential of Optical Rubbing Technique”

4. Dr. Yohei Kiyoyama: “The Development of Artistic Cultural Spaces in Central Kyoto: A Case Study of the ‘1928 Building’ and ‘Kyoto Art Center’ — A Practical Research Toward Sustaining Urban Inclusivity and Cultural Richness”

The second part of the program featured poster presentations, offering participants a more interactive opportunity for dialogue and questions with the researchers. The event proved to be a valuable occasion for interdisciplinary exchange, with active discussions taking place across different academic fields.
